Vasileios Mandrakis
Dr. Vasileios Mandrakis is a postdoctoral researcher in the Climate and Environmental Physics division at the University of Bern since August 2023, as part of the ICOS Switzerland. He is currently responsible for glass-flask measurements, monitoring of the UniBern CO2 – O2 measurement system at the High Altitude Research Station at Jungfraujoch, and the maintenance of the related databases.
Vasileios received his B.Sc. degree in Physics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2013, where he focused on different atmospheric measurement techniques. He then moved to Denmark and the University of Copenhagen (Center for Ice and Climate) where he completed his M.Sc. degree in 2016, specializing in atmospheric measurements of water stable isotopes in ice-cores and in atmospheric water vapor. He completed his Ph.D. in Physics in the Climate and Environmental Physics division at the University of Bern in 2022, where he performed atmospheric measurements of glass-flasks. During his Ph.D., he additionally gained experience with the AirCore sampling technique and has been involved in field work at the High Altitude Research Station at Jungfraujoch.
His experimental experience includes measurements with complex set-ups using laser spectroscopy and mass spectroscopy. Through the years he has performed data analysis with MATLAB and Python.
During his free time, Vasileios enjoys spending time outdoors with his dog and is a passionate amateur astro-landscape photographer.
