Dr. Stuart Grange
Stuart Grange joined the University of Bern in mid-2025. Stuart's focus is on the management and use of observations collected for Switzerland's Integrated Carbon Observation System (ICOS-CH) project with an emphasis on those measurements at Jungfraujoch - a high-alpine observatory in the Bernese Alps.
Stuart received his PhD from the University of York within the Wolfson Atmospheric Chemistry Laboratories. Before his PhD, Stuart completed his BSc at the University of Otago and his MSc at the University of Auckland (both in New Zealand). Between and after his studies, Stuart has worked in the manufacturing and consulting industries as well as acting as a researcher. Stuart has been involved in several subdomains of atmospheric science including: micrometeorological controls and source appointment of PM, the use of low-cost sensors for atmospheric gas and PM monitoring, the investigation of roadside emissions across Europe, the development of the machine learning meteorological normalisation method, investigation of ammonia emissions, and urban carbon dioxide (CO2) monitoring. Outside work, Stuart is a keen runner and cyclist and very much enjoys exploring new places on foot or on a bike.
