Prof. Dr. Eliza Harris
Prof. Dr. Eliza Harris is head of the Isotope Biogeoscience research group and Associate Professor in the Climate and Environmental Physics division at the University of Bern. Eliza received her Bachelor degree in Antarctic Science majoring in chemistry from the University of Tasmania in 2008, and her PhD in Atmospheric Science from the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry in 2012.
Eliza has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at MIT (Ono Lab), Empa (Emissions and Isotopes research group) and the University of Innsbruck (Functional Ecology research group). Between 2020 and 2024 she worked as a senior data scientist at ETHZ‘s Swiss Data Science Center where she contributed to numerous projects including ArcticNAP and ExpectMINE.
Eliza joined the University of Bern in September 2024. Her research focusses on several main topics:
- Development, optimization and implementation of complex methodological, data analysis and modelling techniques for novel and challenging data streams
- Use of isotopic composition to identify sources, sinks and chemistry of trace gases and aerosols at the interface between biosphere and atmosphere
- Greenhouse gas emission and consumption processes in a changing global climate
In addition to her role as professor, Eliza is Director of the Jungfraujoch and Gornergrat high altitude research stations. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, running, and spending time with her family and cat.
